Gundungurra Elder, GAHAI — foundational partner and cultural advisor. Uncle David is a Gundungurra Elder and a key figure in the stewardship of Gundungurra Country. He requires all participating artists to confirm Cultural impacts with the Gundungurra community before proceeding with creative work. He is also an existing staff member at Scenic World, positioning Superposition as deepening a cultural relationship the region already holds.
Eric Avery is an Australian Indigenous violinist, composer and dance practitioner currently based in Melbourne, Victoria. Eric is from the Ngiyampaa, Yuin and Gumbangirr tribes of NSW. Eric's Aboriginal name is Marrawuy Kabi.
Eric's early training in classical violin and classical ballet at Newtown Performing Arts (2008), NAISDA Dance College (2012), the Australian Ballet (in a Kickstart mentorship, 2014-2015) and the Australian Institute of Music (2021-2022) created an early foundation in dance creation and violin technique at an elite level. Eric danced with Marrugeku, a dance company in Broome, WA, culminating in a solo show, Dancing With Strangers, mentored by Dalisa Pigram, Rachael Swain and Kohen Augustijnen (Ballet C, D La B, Brussels).
Having trained at the Australian Institute of Music (2018), Eric's Bachelor of Music has enabled a high degree of violin and compositional engagements for corporate, private and public clientele. In Eric's compositions for violin and voice, the revitalisation of Ngiyampaa language has enabled a conceptual, artistic portal for his Aboriginal beliefs to live and express themselves.
In Sacred Medicines, performed with Flinders Quartet (2026), Eric embarked on composing music that explored concepts of Aboriginal shamanism and states of meditation. The bush medicines Eric learnt from his parents over his life were used as inspiration for the music composed, most notably the "Sojourn of Kii" movement.
In 2020 and 2021 Eric attained a Myer award and is now a Myer Creative Alumni/Fellow. In 2020 Eric headlined Tina Arena for her Enchanted Australia tour. This is a highlight for Eric. Eric has also headlined for Grammy Award winner Rhiannon Giddens in Sydney, Australia.
