This land is not empty, it’s full of life.
LAMIEN is an intimate four-minute puppet show set in the Chilean South, about one Mapuche woman’s battle for her land. This love letter to environmentalists and land rights activists across the world is created by Roberto Caceres of Box Chicken Theatre, a Sydney-based lambe lambe production company.
In the tradition of Lambe Lambes past (a puppetry format originating in Bahia, Brazil) the work is a one-on-one experience between audience and puppeteer, with the show created and performed in a purpose-built box, complete with lights and sound, and watched through a hole in the timber.
Sessions run every 10 minutes across the times listed in the schedule, and are individually ticketed.
Roberto is a grassroots artist and installer based in Linares, Chile. He is originally trained and worked in Civil Construction and has built a number of houses and structures, across Chile all while maintaining a strong connection to the DIY arts community.
He has worked as an installer, builder and collaborator on arts projects by Paula Alarcon, Caja Negra, Fundacion Iguales, Jorge Grandon (WUATANAZ), and more. He has also worked as an installer and exhibition designer on The Call of Fire by Guillermo Robayo presented at Tortuga Studios, Sydney.
In addition to his building and arts practice, he also works as a bespoke furniture designer, occasional landscape designer, and avid gardener given his deep love of plants.
